Baidu’s AI Breakthrough Sends Stock Soaring, Outperforms Google and OpenAI Models
Baidu shares surged nearly 10% to a three-year high following the launch of its Ernie 5.0 AI model, which the company claims surpasses Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro and OpenAI's GPT-5 in reasoning and comprehension. The stock reached HK$160.90 on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, extending gains from an 8.2% rise on the Nasdaq.
Ernie 5.0, unveiled at a Shanghai AI conference, features 2.4 trillion parameters and processes text, images, audio, and video through native full-modal modeling. Baidu's AI assistant now boasts 200 million monthly active users, with analysts maintaining a Strong Buy rating—10 Buy and 2 Hold recommendations.
